Fear Missing An Opportunity More Than You Fear Failure

Fear is the number one hurdle to success. Not a day goes by that I don't hear someone blame their fears. I'm afraid of this....I'm afraid of that.....I'm afraid when.....you get the point, people are afraid. As a life and business coach one of my first objectives is to discover what their afraid of, and why. Probing around usually uncovers the little "demon in the shadows". That little voice that is whispering in your ear, "you can't do it" or "if you do try and it fails, everyone will know". Have you ever experienced those underlying currents that plague us from the get go?

Tip #1

Live your own life.

If you allow other people to crush your dreams, they will. When they say "it can't be done" what they are really saying is "they can't do it".

Tip #2

Be a student. Read, listen & watch. Gather data.

One of the primary reasons we're afraid is that we are intimidated by the unknown. Regardless of the pain, when it's familiar, we always return to it rather than venturing into the possibilities where the outcome could be worse. Doing extensive research eliminates many obstacles. Gather data to be better equipped.

Tip #3

Establish boundaries and create a buffer.

Design a well thought out written plan with predetermined benchmarks. When we have mile markers and sign post we always know where we're at. If you don't design a plan, how do you know when you're winning? When you have margin in your life, (a little time and money) and a buffer, (trusted advisors) it allows you to make rational, calculated decisions rather than operating out of emotion.

Tip #4

If you want to dance, you have to pay the fiddler.

If you are working like you should, you will be too tired to be afraid. (LOL)

It's time to get off your butt and get moving. It's not going to be easy, if it were you would have already done it. Anything easy to get into is easy to get out of. Having grit, determination and laser focus can be a catalyst to great accomplishments. Telling yourself and others that you can't is a cancer that you will soon adopt as a way of life. Always remember that, "Can't couldn't do it and could did it all". You will have good reason to be afraid if you're unwilling to work hard. If you are not going to work this hard, don't start. Hard work eliminates a lot of the fear because the harder you work the luckier you get. If you want to dance, you have to pay the fiddler.

Tip #5

Stop worrying about what your friends and neighbors think.

The honest truth, they are not talking about you half as much as you might think. Seriously, they have their own issues. Do you sit around worrying about what they are doing? No, you don't. Get this out of your head right now because it will paralyze you. It will steal, kill and rob you of your motivation and inspiration.

I always told my girls when they were growing up that failure is determined by not trying, not in not succeeding. I personally had rather go down swinging, digging, grappling and clawing than sitting on the couch, afraid, and wondering if I could have done it. I could not sit and watch my life go by and always have that lingering thought, "Could I have succeeded?"

Turn off the television, get off the couch, stop being afraid, and go conquer your dreams.
