Let me tell you this and I'm going to be honest with you. I've talked to a number of people that are not that great as a dad and they're not that great as a husband.
I've made plenty of mistakes over the course of being a father and being a husband but you can't do that long term because what happens is you deteriorate the relationship with your children. Later on they're going to see this pattern and then the other thing that they're going to start feeling is they're under-appreciated, they're not important.
I just want to encourage you that if you don't make some radical changes it's not going to end well for you.
Let me ask you now, are you becoming the leader or father that is worth following?

What is it that we're doing today that offers us a great amount of clarity, like, how do we even get clarity? We get to a fork in the road and we don't know which way to go.
The other one I’d like to talk about is related to focus. Some of us don't have the ability to focus today because we're getting inundated with all this information and it's hard to determine what to focus on once we even get the clarity.

Allow me to talk to you about committing to a constant and never-ending improvement. When I start thinking about my life, I start thinking about the businesses that we own and some of the things that we've done - it's been kind of 42 years of a constant state of improvement! Trying to move. It's always trying to do better.
One of the things we can do is to ask ourselves tough questions and then you know we've really got to do better as we go forward. I remember a quote that Oliver Cromwell said back, this is you know forever ago, back in the 1600s and he said, “He who stops being better stops being good”. I don't know about you but I don't want to stop being better. I want to be good all the time. I always want to be kind of making some progress, improve in small incremental ways.

I took off October, November and December from doing Facebook lives. Some of the reasons is that I just couldn't handle all the noise! It was driving me out of my mind! All of this social injustice and this political stuff that was going on, the bantering back and forth. I'm like, “oh my gosh, I gotta take a break! This is getting to me! So I set it aside. I didn't go anywhere. It's just that I could not handle all of that confusion!
Now, let me talk. about our VALUES....

VALUES
It is important prioritizing our priorities. One of the things that I want to talk to you about is making sure that what you say aligns with what you do.
Guys say the things that are important to them, they start talking about how my family's the most yet they spend very little time with them. It's like they'll spend 12 14 hours a day at work and then they come home and they're too tired to do anything and they don't have meaningful conversations with their spouse. They can't play baseball with Billy because it's probably dark outside but now and they got to send one more email or get this other thing. I'm not I'm not dogging on you. I'm not saying that those things are not important and you shouldn't do those things but the truth is, if you say it's important then we need to allocate some time towards making sure that you have time to pitch the ball with Billy or go to Susie's recital or spend time with your wife out on the patio talking about things in your life that you really want and the things that you want to accomplish.
