As you know, I like to try to tell stories when talking about some of the principles I bring up in our weekly emails and blogs; but today I think I just want to get to the point. We spent the last four weeks talking about the stages of grief and loss. Now it’s time to simply move on to acceptance.
Here’s the deal gentleman; when we begin to lose something or life shifts in a major way, we have to decide what we are going to do. We can hold onto the potential of life returning to “normal,” but we live in a world that is anything but normal. We need to be prepared to change, shift, move, readjust, and altogether abandon our current direction in order to accomplish the goals we have, and live the life we were designed and created to live.
There are times in life when we need to take a moment and rest. In today’s Western society those times are more frequent than we are willing to admit. We need to learn the relentless pursuit of rest. Rest by itself is a reprieve from something. If we have been working hard and need to find rest, we should take it. But it becomes a Bandaid meant when we do not move back into action. When it comes to change, grief, and loss such as we are going through in society today, we need to take our time to rest; then we have to move towards acceptance so that we can move forward. If we are not actively and relentlessly pursuing what we have been created to become, we are living a life of false hope and miss direction.
The amazing beauty is that we do not have to live that way as we experience loss. Whether it is a job, a company, a girlfriend, or anything else; we need to move through the stages and take rest so that we can finally move forward in our pursuit to obtain the view from the top.
