How to Excel in Every Area of My Life.

Posted by Aaron Walker on Aug 11, 2017 6:00:00 AM

Do you have friends in your life that you can confide in—I mean really open up to—and ask them for advice?

To excel in life, you need to push through upper-limit challenges. You are going to come face-to-face with these obstacles in every area of your life. You need to conquer those challenges, but you won’t be able to do it without a support group that rallies around you and helps you excel.

I recently had a weekend-long meeting with my mastermind group, led by Dan Miller. I've been meeting with these guys once a week for years. It is amazing to know that I have these people around me to confide in.

You might not like what I’m about to say, but you need to look at the people you spend time with and get rid of some of the friends you have. If these guys aren’t helping you, if they aren’t on the same page as you working towards reaching new heights, if they are naysayers non-stop, they need to go. They are just weighing you down.

If you want to soar with the eagles, you can't run around with the turkeys!

You have to get around people that can absolutely take you to the places you want to go. The best way to find a new group of friends that you can really trust, that you can confide in, and that can help you take your life to the next level is to join a mastermind group.

It was a blast to sit around the table for two days and share ideas, thoughts, and resources with my  mastermind group. And it’s not all fun and games. There were some times when it got a little tense. There were some differences of opinion that created a little bit of friction, but that’s one of the things that’s so great about mastermind groups. Iron sharpens Iron!

I want to encourage you to join a mastermind group. If you can’t afford a paid group, join a free group in your local area. You need people around you that can provide wise counsel.

In a mastermind group, you and everyone else can expect to do three things:

  • Be open
  • Be vulnerable
  • Be transparent

You need to be willing to put yourself out there and tell your mastermind group “This is where I am. I'm stuck in these areas.” Let your mastermind group hear you out and provide their perspective. That’s the only way that you're going to excel in every area of your life.

The enemy to excellence is isolation. I say this all the time, but it’s true. If you keep things to yourself, you will eventually not be able to push past a certain point. Mastermind groups will help you personally and professionally. As Jim Rohn said “We are the average of the five people we spend the most time with.”

Mastermind groups are an incredible opportunity to challenge each other's thoughts, share resources, and help push one another through upper-limit challenges. There are going to be times when we’re afraid to take the next step. Having mastermind group members around you will help you take that step and get to the next level. You will never be able to reach your full potential alone, but together we can do amazing things.

Your family is counting on you to be the best leader you can be. What are you doing to take your leadership to the next level? Consider the benefits of sharing your life with a mastermind group. If you want more information on mastermind groups, check out my book The Mastermind Blueprint.

Make a commitment today to get the right people around you. Subject yourself to the scrutiny of trustworthy people who will give you their attention and provide you with wise counsel. Make today the day you decide to take your life to a new level. Let's put the right people around us and let’s go crush it today.
