Where I went to school this equation would not fly. Even to say less is more is crazy. I mean, come on, 4 is greater than 2 and so on. But what I do know now as a 53 year old successful businessman is more often than not less is better.
I chased all the glitz and glamour only to find an empty chest at the base of the rainbow. Each and every milestone revealed more cash and less time.
In no way do I want to minimize my desire to succeed financially because I love to make money. I just don't want money to own me.
Money has great benefits and I want my share. I like a nice home and a couple cars. I enjoy vacations and relaxation. However, I have discovered the secret to contentment.
I did not say to be complacent, because I love to grow and develop my business. I love to make certain my financial future is intact and I want to pay my bills when they are due, that takes cash.
What Robin and I discovered a few years ago is that if we wanted to have contentment we needed to recover our time. Time without a question is one of our most cherished assets.
We began to sell everything that caused stress in our life:
We downsized our house
We sold excess personal items
We eliminated investments that were creating havoc
We soon realized the very thing we cherished most was our time.
Now, evenings are spent visiting with each other, friends and family. I do realize that much of our heart's desire is because of our age, empty nesters and less financial obligations.
My only regret is that I did not have a mentor earlier in my life to guide me through the misconceptions of more, bigger and better.
Less may not be more, but less for me is better!
