This week I had the privilege to meet Jeff Hoffman while attending a conference. While there were incredible pearls of wisdom, one speaker that stood head and shoulders above the rest as billionaire Jeff Hoffman. I can’t even begin to share with you how he rocked the stage. Jeff is a successful entrepreneur, proven CEO, worldwide motivational speaker, Hollywood film producer, and a producer of a 2015 Grammy winning jazz album. In his career, he has been the founder of multiple startups, the CEO of both public and private companies, and has served as a senior executive in many capacities. Jeff has been part of a number of well-known companies, including Priceline.com, uBid.com, CTI, ColorJar, and more.
I wanted to highlight three takeaways from Jeff’s presentation. Jeff was very adamant about the value of focus. He said that if you have six great ideas, eliminate five of them. At no time during his career would he allow himself to work on more than one project at a time. Laser focus was required for optimum performance.
Jeff said that, in order to succeed, we must dream big, work hard, and create value. Jeff worked with Flowers Express to grow their business to unimaginable levels. There was one overarching question he asked everyone who worked there, from the truck mechanics to the CEO, “Is what you are doing right now, selling more flowers?” If the answer was no, they stopped doing it.
I want you to consider these three questions, right now, as it relates to your business:
- Are you focused on one task?
- Are you dreaming big, working hard, and creating value?
- Is your every move, every thought, and every action selling more flowers?
If you will adopt this simple strategy, I promise, at the end of the day, you will be awarded a gold medal in your event.
