Why Do I Need A Coach?

Posted by Aaron Walker on Jul 7, 2014 8:40:00 AM

We all want our life to count and have a significant impact…

AaronWalkerWhoNeedsACoach…we all want to make the most of our time at work and with our families. Of course we all do, but what does that have to do with needing a coach?

Check out the origins of the word, “coach” from Dictionary.reference.com

Origin:
1550–60; 1840–50  for sense “tutor”; earlier coche e ) <Middle French coche  < German Kotsche, Kutsche  < Hungariankocsi,  short for kocsi szekér  cart of Kocs, town on the mainroad between Vienna and Budapest; senses referring totutoring, from the conception of the tutor as one whocarries the student through examinations

Whether you are a CEO, entrepreneur or employee for Ford Motor Company there are unexpected “exams” you will be facing everyday. Truly successful people learn how to enlist the help of others to help “carry them through”.

There are many fundamentals we handle pretty well on our own everyday:

  • Knowing right from wrong.
  • Understanding the golden rule.
  • Sharing & putting others first.

But what about some of these unexpected “life exams”:

  • Understanding and responding properly to different personality styles in your children?
  • Making right financial decisions in the middle of stressful and confusing circumstances?
  • Finding support and encouragement in the middle of ethical and moral temptation?
  • Leading employees down a path where you have never been?
  • Deciding quickly when a fork in the road shows up in your life or business you weren’t prepared for?
  • Surviving the stress when your marriage starts feeling shaky after 15 years?
  • Standing bravely when its time for your daughter to go out on her first date with some young man that in no way is good enough for your princess?

You may have wondered, “Why do I need a coach?” The truth is, we all need a coach from time to time. We need other men in our life to help us be more, do more, and help watch our back. Do you have trusted advisors to guide you through the minefields of life?  Do you have mentors and teachers, “coaches” that can raise their hands and say, “I have been here before”?

None of us has every area of our lives under control? A good coach can be that voice of encouragement through life’s examinations. Maybe it’s time for you to consider how a coach can help you.
